![]() Once the team was selected, Joe helped with contract negotiations, making it a point to be available to answer questions as they came up. Once all the details were set Joe then arranged for items to be bid through his list of contractors and craftsmen, We met with numerous contractors, requested and reviewed the bids, revising the design as needed, and sending them out again for revised estimates. The end result was a design that we were satisfied with. ![]() Once an option was selected (with modifications based on feedback) Joe kept us in the loop by sending updates of the design via graphics sent by email and follow up meetings. Once he completed initial sketches of options for the space he met with both myself and my children to discuss the options and listened closely to our feedback. Joe’s style is very collaborative-keeping the client involved. Joe took the time to get to know the site and understand how I wanted to use it. I decided that a ‘Master’ Plan needed to be prepared in order to cover all the options and just as important establish and work with a budget I was comfortable with. I was also concerned with finding the proper contractors to help with the installation of the project once the design was complete. In short I wanted the pool and surrounds to complement the overall aesthetics of my property, not compete with it. The site itself is unique- so I was concerned with whom to work with regarding this, I was especially concerned that the design not intrude on a view I have of a lake bordering my property. We have the expertise to evaluate and resolve grading issues in the underlying foundation, prepare a site master plan that considers access, circulation, safety and any other aesthetic opportunities.I was considering improvements for my residence in Frederick County which included a pool with hot tub and its surrounds featuring an outdoor fireplace. Pool design is a process that illustrates well the value of working with a professional landscape architect. ![]() Once that is finalized, the client will commission the pool contractor for all of the permitting and installation. Typically, our team will work with our client in conceptualizing and documenting the overall site plan. We often get asked what our role entails in the process of designing and building a pool. This modern pool design, has allowed us to leverage the small space and use the wall to embed water fountain spouts, making the pool a beautiful water feature when not being used as a pool. The petite pool design will be located in the private outdoor space off the master bedroom, tucked up against a raised planter wall. Small backyard pools can measure around 8-10’ around and about 4’ deep. The idea of a petite pool design has gained popularity. Sometimes called ‘plunge pools,’ ‘spools’ (combo spa/pool), ‘splash pools’ or just little pools. Although this is the case, our Studio 1515 landscape design team have received copious inquiries and interest in adding a pool to many new or existing backyard designs. Large pools are often expensive to construct, fill, heat and maintain. Sigh… the reality is backyard pools can also require a lot of regular maintenance and off season up-keep.
